It’s December and that means GIFTING SEASON! Gifts are a lovely way to show appreciation or love towards people. Everyone loves presents and taking the time to buy meaningful ones for the humans (and non-humans 😉) in your life is very important!
There are so many amazing things you can buy for book lovers or bookish people. From books to bookish items, there’s something to fit every budget! Of course, this gift guide would also be great for other festive celebrations like birthdays.
This list doesn’t include books because that’s such an obvious one lol but if you’re interested in buying books, go check out my guide to buying books while on a budget!
So, let’s get to it! This list contains a wide variety of things you can buy for your friends, partner, parents or colleagues if they love books and all things bookish!
It’s impossible to make a bookish wish list without including a Kindle. E-books are the wave of the decade. Everyone is buying and reading books on their phones, laptops and other devices. The Kindle however is designed specifically for buying and reading books. There are different types to choose from like the normal Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Oasis. Each has its separate distinction but their main purpose is the same.
A Kindle is a book lover’s best friend. It’s big so readers don’t have to strain their eyes. It also doesn’t emit blue light that hurts the eyes and its battery lasts weeks. It also has a high contrast touchscreen display that eliminates glare even in bright sunlight.
The Kindle also has all the nifty settings book lovers love like bookmarks, highlighters and lots more. Most designs even show how far the reader has gone in percent. It’s very important to us; for Goodreads and stuff 😊
It’s very pricey starting from $80 but if your budget can handle it, go ahead and purchase it! It’s an amazing gift!
Note: The Kindle is not available in all countries yet. You’ll have to confirm that first.
What’s next after e-books? Audiobooks!
Not everyone can lug around a physical book and some people don’t like ebooks. So, audiobooks are great gifts for them. Also, audiobooks are the best way to read on the subway or when travelling. They’re also great for busy stay-at-home mums that rarely have the time to sit and read. Honestly, audiobooks are great for everyone.
Audible is the top place to buy and listen to audiobooks. There are different membership types from 1 month to a year (discounted). The subscription fee allows people to be able to use the app. You can’t even buy audiobooks without paying that fee. So, it’ll be great to cover it for someone you love. You can also buy a couple of audio books too. In the genres the person likes though. You don’t want to buy classics for a fantasy lover 😂😂
Bookish merch are so amazing! There’s a wide variety of bookish merch like bookmarks (paper and magnetic), bookish candles, mugs, bookish pins (which are sooo cute), notebooks and stickers. There are also bookish lip balms, pillow cases, bed spreads, phone cases, laptop covers, jewellery and so on based entirely on books. You can find many of the shops on Etsy, Redbubble, Society6 and Instagram.

Bookish merch are generally very cheap so they are really great stuff to buy if you have a tight budget. Many paper bookmarks go for less than $3 and candles are usually priced around $10.
Bookish Subscription Box
These are boxes curated specially for book lovers and owning one (or 10) is every book lover’s dream! They usually contain one or two books in addition to bookish merch and sometimes a letter from the author (SO AMAZING!) They tend to have a theme (e.g. Wicked Wonderland) or they may be set around a genre. These are really great gifts for teens and young adults because their prices can be quite high (and y’know, young people are broke 😩) So, you’re basically buying something awesome they can’t buy themselves!
Some great brands that sell subscription boxes are:
Special Editions of Books
Now, you might say that books are books! But, every book lover knows that popular books tend to have special editions that are always more beautiful than the original. Yes, we like the content of the books but we also LOVE pretty books!
The Penguin classics, Hogwarts Houses books, Harry Potter illustrated books and leather-bound books are some examples of great bookish gifts! If you are willing to search, you may also find original editions of some 19th century or 20th century books. They are usually very expensive but on the flip side, they’re great investments because their value keeps on increasing!
Wall or Desk Art

In the bookish world, this is divided into two: motivational art and bookish art. Book lovers love both but we do prefer bookish art. Sometimes, it may be a drawing of our favourite character or a painting of our favourite fantasy world. Either way, art pieces that speak directly to us and remind us of the books we love are wonderful gifts!
While reading an interesting book, it can be really easy to forget mundane stuff like day and night. Those are concepts we ignore when reading awesome books but unfortunately, our eyes can’t ignore them 😭😭 We love pretty things and bed-side lamps are BO-RING. So, how about a lamp shaped as a book?! 😍😍 Bookish lamps are really great gifts that people don’t take advantage of enough. Don’t make that mistake! 😉
If you’re interested in any of these gifts, share to your friends and family. Hopefully, they’ll take the hint and buy as many of them as possible 😁
