The Blogger Recognition Award #2

img_20180212_2020241.png

I mentioned in my January wrap-up that I’ve been nominated for some awards since November, 2017 and I apologise to Lee Ann from Cabbage Blossom Review for taking so long to do this. Thank you so much Lee Ann for the nomination!

This award is for bloggers to nominate other bloggers in an effort to encourage writing and acknowledge the tremendous amount of work that goes into maintaining a blog. The award also seeks to create an environment for bloggers to review and reward one another’s work in a supportive environment

Here are the rules to follow!

Rules

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  • Write a brief story about how your blog began.
  • Provide two pieces of advice to new bloggers
  • Select 15 blogs to nominate
  • Comment on each nominee’s blog and provide a link to the post you created about the award.

About Stuffed Shelves

I got the idea to start this blog from my older sister who’s an AMAZING beauty blogger at A Makeupjunkie’s blogShe had been blogging for over a year in August, 2017 (before I started) and I wanted to do something like that. Create a gorgeous website, post amazing stuff and have people say they liked what I posted!

Since I had no interest in makeup, I decided my blog would be about something I love….books! So, I began writing reviews of the books I read. Those reviews were interesting and lively (unlike the boring ones I write now. I’m still trying to get back my early excitement though😂😂😂) I wrote about seven reviews before my twin sister pushed and prodded until I finally decided to stop procrastinating and actually start.

The name of my blog was given to me by a friend of mine who also gave me about five other names to choose from. I liked this one best and my blog began!

Thanks to everyone who checks my blog. I appreciate all views, I appreciate your likes and comments and even if I don’t reply your comment in a long time, please do understand that I’m in uni and I don’t have a lot of free time. I love you all.

Thank you!!🤗❤

My Advice to New Bloggers

In my first Blogger Recognition post, I stated two pieces of advice that I hope you’ll check out!

Before I start, I would like to mention that blogging is hard. I don’t want to scare you away but that’s the truth. You’re going to be spending your time, money and effort on your blog and it’s not going to be easy (no matter your niche). Your time and effort gets rewarded through the likes, comments and views your posts get.

A lot of non-bloggers think blogging isn’t “all that” but I can tell you as someone who’s been blogging for five months that it’s more than “all that”

However, try not to give up. If at some point, you need a break though, please go ahead, get your head in the right place and take all the rest you need and more.

Enough with the preamble guys. Let’s get started!!

1) Engage with other bloggers

I mentioned this in my first award post I linked above and I can’t stress this enough.

Read the below as a chant and make sure it sticks.

Like! Comment! Like! Comment! Like! Comment!

I’m going to explain this better with an example of a blogger I know. That person is Dani from Touch my Spine Book ReviewsShe’s been blogging for six months and has over 900 followers and most likely 200 views or more on each post. I have over 300 followers, about 40 views on each post and I’ve been blogging for nearly the same amount of time as her.

Want to know how she does it?

She engages meaningfully with other bloggers. She was one of the first followers I had when I started blogging and every month, I get at least 10 views from her i.e. she checks out nearly all my posts every month. She doesn’t just check, she also posts lovely, nice comments that make me so happy and I know I’m not the only one who enjoys her attention.

If you want to have amazing stats and have a lot of people check your blog, you need to be willing to reach out first. Your posts may get lost in the hundreds of blog posts everyday but if you engage with other bloggers, they’ll check your blog out and engage with you.

2) Share your posts on social media.

The best social media I personally recommend for this is Twitter. Make blogger friends on Twitter and connect your blog with your Twitter account so that when you post on your blog, it automatically shows on your Twitter feed. Your blogger friends will help your posts reach more people by liking or retweeting.

Now, I highlighted the word “friends” twice. I don’t mean followers. I mean friends. You can only get friends on Twitter by interacting with people. The more people you interact with, the more friends you make and the more views you’ll get on your blog.

Some bloggers use Pinterest but it personally doesn’t bring views to my blog so I have nothing to say about it.

I nominate

That’s it for this blogger award. I hope it wasn’t too long!

What advice do you have for any blogger reading this? What tips can you give me to improve my blog?

P.S. I created a Valentine Book Tag here on my blog and I hope you check it out!!

Reblogged this on Touch My Spine Book Reviews and commented:
I don’t know if this post will show up because WordPress has been glitchy but wanted to share this post that the awesome and lovely Taiwo @ Stuffed Shelves posted. I am not trying to be a show off or anything like that but it really has touched my heart that within days I have had 4 or 5 shoutouts to me in some way or fashion and have been complimented on my bloggy style(not sure what to call it🤣). Anyways, I cried tears of joy because when I feel like I have been failing at blogging and neglected the blogosphere, I have received tremendous support and the most heartfelt posts and shoutouts ever! I have to admit I was even considering giving up but I want to thank Taiwo for this great shoutout and give her one! Taiwo is a fantasic, supportive and compassionate lady whom when just meeting me she was concerned about my wellbeing and was just so sweet! I feel so blessed to have met such badass and compassionate friends in the blogosphere so thank you to everyone! I was doubting my ability as a book blogger and reviewer and you guys touched my heart and restored my faith in myself! You guys all freakin’ rock!🤗😍

Aww, thank you so much for the tag! I totally agree with your advice in this post; it’s very important to engage meaningfully with others, rather than just seeing them as stats. Awesome post! I find it very sweet that your sister inspired you to make this blog. 😀

Congrats on the award and thank you for the nomination! Blogging really is hard and those who’ve never attempted to blog have no idea!! And I agree, interacting with other bloggers is the best way to grow your blog. The book community especially is extremely supportive. I love it! And yes! Twitter is in my opinion the best social media site for bloggers! I’ve made so many friends through twitter!

You’re so right, it’s definitely more than ‘all that’ 😀 but it also pays back in the love that it so much more than ‘all that’!

The hardest part for me is visiting everyone! It’s definitely THE way, but it’s just so hard to make time for it. Especially if you also want to create content 🙂

And thank you so much for tagging me ❤

I love your first paragraph in your comment! So very true.

Yes. That’s also very hard for me. I’ve decided to start blog hopping for one hour every Saturday and I hope I can stick to that!

      You’re welcome Evelina!❤
